Main Verse: Honestly I struggled with finding a verse, so I am not putting one up. I am not saying there is not one, but I did some searching and came up empty. If you have a good one please feel free to share it in the comments.
Main Idea: Healthy Expectations
Message:
Unrealistic expectations can cause disappointment that runs deep. I am sad to say I have placed unrealistic expectations on my husband, children, friends, and even myself. What I found was I felt frustrated and they were left hurt. When I have placed them on myself I end up feeling unworthy or not good enough. According to the on-line version of the Meriam-Webster.com, expectation is a noun and means:
a belief that something will happen or is likely to happen
a feeling or belief about how successful, good, etc., someone or something will be.
Realistic, healthy expectations are normal and part of everyday living. We expect our kids to obey, our spouse to be faithful, our boss expects us to show up for work on time. It's when our expectations demand an action that the other person (ourselves included) is not capable of-that's where the problem begins. To expect our son or daughter to be just like their sibling or the seemingly perfect neighbor kid down the street. Or when we expect our spouse to be perfect in every way. I have been on the receiving end but I have dealt out those expectations more times than I care to count. I want to encourage and pray for those around me to live up to their full God-given potential and place healthy expectations on them to grow and mature. I encourage you to lay down that which is completely unrealistic and ask God to reveal to you how you should approach those in your life, including yourself. He has great plans!
To healthy expectations,
Tiffany
